Letter from Mayor Sherman

As the nice weather returns and we start getting back outside to our favorite warm weather activities please remember to do them safely. Lets also remember to watch out for others doing their favorite warm weather activities such as the kids on bicycles and people going for walk.  Kayakers be reminded of the launch, storage rack, and Blueway Trail kiosk located north of the Village Office adjacent to the waterfront.

There is lots of information in this edition of the newsletter, including information on the proposed FY2022-23 Village Budgets.  The General Fund budget which relies heavily on the collection of property taxes also utilizes sales tax and other revenue incomes.  A five percent increase in total appropriations is proposed within the General Fund budget; also included is an increased utilization of fund balances and, after lengthy discussions by Village Board Members, a sales tax revenues amount which remains flat at the prior fiscal year’s rate.  Unfortunately, a overall decrease in the amount of total taxable value within the Village results in a slight increase in the tax rate. That increase amounts to approximately five dollars per $100,000 of assessed value.

The Village Board accepted a purchase offer for the Cayuga Memorial Hall and anticipates closing on the sale soon. Work continues on the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, another public informational meeting will be scheduled in upcoming months.

As the spring rainy season is upon us, please keep the road side ditches, driveway culverts and catch basins in front of your homes clear of leaves, branches and other debris which can prohibit proper drainage, cause flooding or other damage.  Bagged leaf and bundled brush pickup will resume and spring clean up is scheduled for June 11th.

Be well and stay healthy,

Mayor William Sherman
