Comprehensive Plan

The Comprehensive Plan is a tool a community can use to address a broad range of issues and topics in a unified manner. Through a Comprehensive Plan, a community can identify and analyze the relationships between many important inter-related components (e.g. transportation, housing, parks and open space, commercial and retail development, municipal and government services, etc.). It does this on a community-wide basis using a collaborative process that involves a broad cross-section of stakeholders.

The Comprehensive Plan addresses the long-range future of the community sometimes up to a 20 year horizon. The primary purpose of the plan is to provide guidance to those in both the private and public sectors when making decisions that affect the future. It is not a detailed plan but rather a conceptual road map stating the community’s goals with actions that must be taken to achieve them.

Under New York State Village Law (Section 7-722), the Village Board is responsible for adopting or accepting and maintaining the Comprehensive Plan as a guide to the community’s development. The adoption of this Comprehensive Plan exemplifies the commitment by the Village to maintain and improve the quality of life for its residents.
